Here's what my iPod's been playing pretty much non-stop this week. I've been rediscovering some bands I OD'ed on a few years back but never fell out of love with. We just needed a little time apart so we could learn to appreciate one another again.
17 - Kings of Leon
I haven't gotten over these guys or their Only by the Night album - and I hope I never do.
Skeletons - Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Absolutely beautiful song, awesome creepy video. Karen O is my girl.
Misery - Maroon 5
Yes, I confess: I had completely forgotten about this song until I saw the Glee cover last week. How could I do such a thing? (By the way, this is a super sexy/funny video a la Crybaby).
What Goes Around...Comes Around & My Love - Justin Timberlake
This album (FutureSex/LoveSounds) marks the highlight of his career. I don't know if he can ever top it. I STILL love both of these songs and videos, and I'm generally not even into this kind of music. (Love you, JT, even if I get the feeling you probably are kind of a douche in real life.)

why my ears are smiling this week
Here's what I've been listening to pretty much non-stop this week. (I warn you, it's been a strange one.)
1. "I'm Not In Love" - 10 CC
I'm not in love
So don't forget it
It's just a silly phase I'm going through
So just because I call you up
Don't get it wrong
Don't think you've got it made
2. "Gewinner" - Clueso
This song is in German, and I have no idea what it means...But I like the sound of it.
3. "The Thrill Is Gone" - BB King feat. Eric Clapton
This is my favorite version of this classic, from the album 80.
4. "Read My Mind" - The Killers
Never really gave up on
Breakin' out of this two-star town
I've got the green light
I've got a little fight
I'm gonna turn this thing around
Can you read my mind?
5. "C'est si bon" - Eartha Kitt
This song will make you want to wrap yourself in mink and eat a baguette.

why my ears are smiling this week
The five songs my iPod's been playing pretty much non-stop this week. They're not all hits, and they're not all recent, but they are all fabulous.
1. "I Want Love" - Elton John
But I want love, just a different kind
I want love, won't break me down
Won't brick me up, won't fence me in
I want a love that don't mean a thing
That's the love I want, I want love
What a lovely, understated music video. Gotta love EJ and RDJ.
2. "Welcome to England" - Tori Amos
I'm in quicksand; I am sinking fast
Perfect, he laughed
Cause your other half has got a Devil's access
Welcome to England, he said
Welcome to my world
You better bring your own sun, sweet girl
One of my very Tori Amos favorite songs - and I love pretty much everything she does. The video is eerie and beautiful, which is what I've come to expect from her.
3. "This Ain't a Long Song" - Scouting for Girls
It's all right
You can try, but you'll never keep me down
It's all right
I may be lost but I'm waiting to be found
I discovered these guys on a Graham Norton rerun - And I love them! The lyrics are a bit inane, but it's upbeat and catchy...A perfect non-depressing breakup song, if you need one. (Who doesn't?)
4."Tainted Love" - Soft Cell
You need someone to hold you tight
And you think love is to pray
Well I'm sorry, I don't pray that way
Pure old-school pleasure.
5. "Born This Way" - Lady GaGa
It doesn't matter if you love him, or capital H-I-M
Just put your paws up
'Cause you were born this way, baby
So unless you've been living under a rock you've probably heard this song a million times and seen the video at least once. But I'm not tired of it yet. I've had it set as my wake-up alarm this week, and I've been rolling out of bed with a little extra oomph. The video is crazy, of course, and a little self-important...But I guess I wasn't expecting anything less. Props to her for looking fabulous. And I think I already have a Halloween costume for this year! (Pink hair, skull face paint, and girlie tux? Yup.)

why my ears are smiling this week
Here are the five songs I've been playing on my iPod pretty much non-stop this past week:
1. "It's a Man's Man's Man's World" - James Brown
And after man has made everything he can
You know that man makes money
To buy from other man
This is a man's world
But it wouldn't be nothing, nothing
Not one little thing
Without a woman or a girl
2. "My Life" - Billy Joel
They will tell you you can't sleep alone in a strange place
Then they'll tell you you can't sleep with somebody else
But sooner or later you sleep in your own space
Either way it's okay; you wake up with yourself
3. "Both Sides Now" - Joni Mitchell
I've looked at clouds from both sides now
From up and down, and still somehow
It's cloud illusions that I recall
I really don't know clouds at all
4. "Dream On" - Aerosmith
The past is gone
It went by like dust to dawn
Isn't that the way
Everybody's got their dues in life to pay
Yeah, I know nobody knows
Where it comes and where it goes
I know everybody sins
You've got to lose to know how to win
5. "Super Duper Love" - Joss Stone
